Wigs for Kids! Progress!

This website uses cookies. It is Google powered after all so, duh!

Doing all that I can to bring awareness to this wonderful organization and my goal.

My Hair Length Approximately
June 8th
Progress September 4th

So ready to cut my hair off! Still need to grow it three or four more inches. Wigs for Kids wants donations to be at least twelve inches long. They would really prefer fourteen inches long or longer. So I am going to have to maybe grown my hair down to the middle of my back.

My previous blogs on the subject.

Wigs for Kids! My First Blog

I thought my hair was just taking to long to grow. If I compare my progress now the my hair in December. My guess is I will be writing my final blog in September of 2020. Must stay strong! Must hang in there! Must not cut me hair!

Wigs for Kids! Part Two!

It looks like my hair growth has stalled, in February. Need to start taking better care of it.

Wigs for Kids! Part Three! I am Getting Antsy!

Progress is slow

Just to let you know. I am not interested in any MLM hair growing vitamins. If you slide into my comment with that nonsense. I will delete your comments and block you!

Wigs for Kids; I am Getting Antsy!

The reason why this particular blog was born. Knowing my tolerance level. For the same hairstyle.  Seeing so many lovely ladies with darling layered bobs and highlights. Seriously isn't a bob just the best hairstyle ever invented?

Thank you Irene Castle!

I knew that I would get bored. Start craving, yes craving, a bob with pink, lavender and blond highlights. So this blog was started to keep me accountable to the goal. Contributing in part to a wig. For someone whom for whatever reason, cannot grow their own hair.

I always like to donate to charity around my birthday. This year my charity of choice was Wigs for Kids. Thank you to everyone who donated! It is a great charity. They take money as well as virgin hair, that is hair that has had no chemical processes.

With curled hair.
Cannot remember. Taken about the same time?

My hair is seemingly growing so slowly. Will hang in there and keep it up. This is such a good cause.

I realize the Mr Churchill wasn't talking about hair.

Wigs for Kids! Part Two!

   Part One of this blog!

Every year for my birthday. I like to make a donation to a charitable organization.  Still working on the enormous task of growing my hair out for donation. This organization makes wigs for kids that have lost their own hair. Due to illness or other reasons. The organization is called, Wigs for Kids!

It can be difficult. Whenever I see a cute, soft and wavy bob. They are all cute! The temptation to cut and color my hair is strong. It is much harder is to go through your young life without hair. Hair is such an important part of our self esteem. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. Persisting in this goal.

The length of my hair now!
February 19, 2019

I knew that my hair wouldn't be long enough by my birthday. So starting a Fundraiser. Seemed like a really good idea. The idea is to raise $1,800. Enough to make one wig. The recipients and their families don't get charged. Erin's Birthday Fundraiser, For Wigs for Kids!

My hair length from December 13, 2018

Found some great tasting Gummy hair vitamins. As well as attempting to eat healthy food and get plenty of exercise.

Wigs for Kids!

Recently I received an email about my blog. If I didn't publish something soon. It would be deleted. It has been too long since I wrote anything. Here goes!

I am not ready to write about my health and fitness journey,  yet. That blog is coming soon. I didn't want 'Ordinary Girl' to disappear forever. Not after all the blood, sweat and tears that has been poured into it. Okay, okay a little to much drama!

This is the length of my hair when I decide to donate
I can't remember the exact month

Let's get to the reason behind these ramblings. Every year around my birthday. I like to do an act of service.
(Insert, shameless tooting of my own horn)
This year the chosen charity is; Wigs for Kids! Not only growing out my own hair and planning to donate that. Since that will take a little long while. Planning to make a monetary donation. Plus hosting a fundraiser on Facebook. This will happen around my birthday! Which is in March, stay tuned.

My December progress!

Well maybe it is a little bit longer brushed out?
I still have a long way to go.

What is the reason behind choosing Wigs for Kids? Remember when you were growing up. If you had a bad hair day? It was just the worst. (It is still pretty bad honestly) When you were on the receiving end of a bad haircut? It had to grow out and it took forever. Even worse? A hideous haircut before a big, much photographed event. I received the ugliest haircut before I took my senior pictures. Not only did it make the pictures hideous. The cut took forever to grow out.
Hair and how it looks is so important. Imagine having an illness that causes hair loss? That would be utterly devastating.

Choosing Wigs for Kids was a personal decision. While there are other charities that accept hair for donation. Surely they do good work.  It isn't my goal to disparage any other charities. Or their operations. Just wanting to draw deserved attention to this very wonderful charity.

I really need to grow my hair 14 inches Plus. From the back of my neck. Here is some information if anyone else is interested.

Donate a Ponytail. No highlights for me. For a year or more. It is for the kids. It will be okay.

This organization is also on Facebook

And on Twitter

Now I have to go and order some Sugar Bear Hair, vitamins. This isn't sponsored. Hearing good things about that vitamin brand. I am hoping that it will expedite the process.

I decided to stick with my current hair multi vitamin by Eufora

What Can I Change in Eight Weeks? Part Three

Still using Marbles to measure my weight loss.
I think officially I have lost two marbles, hahahahahaha!
This is a good kind of marbles to lose though

I am so glad that you are back. I appreciate my readers so much!

Week Five
Part One of this blog What I Can Change in Eight Weeks!
Part two What I Can Change! Part Two!

 *January 15*
Monday
Hair appointment tomorrow! Getting my hair done is one of my favorite things.

Sharing pictures of this cutie because I can.
Definitely not a shaggy dog. Just a sweet little dust bunny
*Jan 16*
Tuesday
Learned something new. The frigid cold air. Has kept the snow totals low. Some how it creates a barrier and keeps the snow off the coast. That is really great. Snow ruins everything. Winter ruins everything. Winter is Evil!

After
Before

*Jan 17*
Wednesday
Dusting of heavier snow today. Still easy to clean up. I got my first flu shot, ever.
The Flu season has just been awful. Plus I just watched the Spanish Flu episode of Downton Abbey. I bet they would have gotten a vaccine if it had been available.

*Jan 18*
Thursday
Small setback and a little meltdown! Pity Party table for one! Wondered why do I even bother? Felt like quitting. Then I got down to business. Went and did my Thursday exercise.

Once again!
Time to cue the tiny violin

Tried Kombucha yesterday. I love it! Kind of spendy, but hopefully the probiotics will keep sickness at bay.

My old girl is going to be 14 this year!

*Jan 19*
Friday
The weather was beautiful today. I wish we could keep this weather. It will be very beautiful for a couple days, at least

*Jan 20*
Saturday
Today is my dad's birthday!
This is an interesting day. How to eat birthday cake and enjoy myself. Without going crazy.
Dad wanted Steak for his birthday dinner
Boiled some potatoes with it
Mom doesn't like Steak. So she had turkey
Meatballs and pasta.
Which turned out to be awful. Sorry mom
I did good today. There was no binging and I did exercise.

The Steak was great, but this is what I really want

A life without cake is no life at all
Or at least a very sad one. A life
without cake makes me 'that diet person'

Week Six

*Jan 22*
Monday
This is usually the time that I give up. Resolve to do better next time.  Or I will start over again, tomorrow. They tell me the definition of insanity. Is doing the same thing over and over. While expecting a different result.
No more insanity!

*Jan 23*
Tuesday
Had some distressing news. I am not going to feed my sadness with food.

*Jan 24*
Wednesday
Has it been 21 days yet? I heard that to make something a habit takes 21 days. It is taking me a little longer.

What do you do?
When your mom makes homemade pound cake?
You eat a slice. At least I do. I am not going to turn down cake.
Ever!

She looks so cute! Just had to share

*Jan 25*
Thursday
Was feeling a little blah. That my progress isn't is fast as I would like. Then I remembered. Rapid progress means I gain the weight back. Just as quickly. I want this weight to be gone forever. I want to be the 5% that finds success. Not the 95% that fails over and over.

*Jan 26*
Friday
Tried to talk myself out of exercising. All the way through.
Time to change it up a bit.

*Jan 27*
Saturday
I was planning on changing my exercise plan on Monday. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.

*Jan 28*
Sunday
A dress I wore for Christmas is a little loose.
Not as loose as I would like. I still have a lot of work to do.

Last week 140.7
This week 139.6

Training for a 5k

**Note** I lost my weight using Points Plus. I have not and will not use Smart Points**

Turning forty doesn't really feel much different than thirty nine. I do feel a lot better than I ever did in my twenties.  I dress better, too.  While in my twenties I gasp to think about how much I needed Stacy and Clinton. Why didn't anyone turn me into "What Not to Wear"? And hair, don't even get me started on my past hair.

I want this part of my life to be filled with different things. I always wanted to run. So I signed up for a 5k in September. I figure I have enough time to train for that. I want to run. I already know that I can walk 3.10 miles. I want to push myself to do what I have never done. Eventually I want to run The Boston Marathon, but baby steps.

So I am building up my stamina. For two weeks I have been riding my stationary bicycle. Riding it for twenty minutes a day, six times a week.  Trying to slowly build up stamina. Like I said, baby steps. Next week my exercise routine changes.

I had quit Weight Watchers. I decided to go back. I am tired of the weight creeping up and up. Slowly creeping back on. I had the most success with Weight Watchers. It is a very good program. I was doing Spark People. Don't get me wrong. Spark People is a great program. I just found ways to cheat while doing Spark. It wasn't them, it was me.

Embarking on a new journey is Fabulous!

Splurges

I find that as women we are so busy taking care of everyone else. We never take time to take care of ourselves. It is almost like we feel guilty for taking time to take care of ourselves. I believe it was the TV judge, Judge Judy, that said women are like trees. In that we are the trunk and the roots of the tree. Our family are the branches of the tree. If the trunk and the roots don't take time to nourish themselves. The branches, our family, will suffer in the long run. Or maybe it was Dr. Laura. That is something that has resounded with me. Even if I cannot remember exactly who said it.

Anyway my splurges are salon quality shampoo and a good haircut. Going to a salon where everybody knows my name. And every stylist intuitively knows how I like my hair cut. It is such a wonderful experience to be made to feel like you are the only client. Unlike other cheaper franchise salons that shall remain nameless.

Believe it or not. This is near the end of my blog. I just wanted to write a little blurb to give you all totally fabulous ladies permission to do something good for yourself. Taking care of yourself, so that you can take care of your family is fabulous.

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

I have been thinking for a while. We woman are so hard on each other. And we are so hard on ourselves. We are sold a bill of goods by some ad executives and are made to feel like we are less than, if we don't measure up to this impossible standard of beauty. I know for a long time I was really hard on myself. So many flaws and so little space to name them all.

So I have decided that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Even though I am far from perfect and I have many flaws. I have big pores and I am an apple shape. I will never have a thigh gap. Even when I was a Tiny Tina, I didn't have a thigh gap. And who on earth decided that a thigh gap was a desirable trait, but I digress.

So in my search for helping woman feel better about themselves, I found this video on You Tube. Which I also call the Tubey Place, just so you know.  I wish I knew more about the person that made it, they are brilliant. There is just a bit of side boob and no nudity in this video, I checked.

And this is from Dove Soap. Their Campaign for Real Beauty

So as we see from those videos. These real women were turned into something they are not. They are attractive women. They were turned into a creative photographers idea of what a woman should look like. We can't compete with that! A famous supermodel once said that she wished she really looked like her print ads.

I bought into the idea of what a beautiful woman is supposed to look like. I dyed my hair blond. I couldn't afford to go to the salon so I bought grocery store dye. I don't recommend it. It wasn't very attractive. I cringe at those pictures from the early 2000's.

So just because I am working on loving myself. That doesn't mean that I can give up. I am still going to exercise and eat healthy. I am going to be my most fabulous self. I am just not going to buy into the idea of what fashion magazines say is my most fabulous self. I am still going to wear make up and lovely clothes. I love fashion.

In this blog I hope that I can give tips on how to be fabulous. Which you can take or leave, completely up to you. And affordable tips to boot. You will never read me telling you that you must have this adorable, yet plain white t-shirt, that is so affordable at the low, low price of $600. No way that won't come out of my blog. I don't care who makes it, a plain white t-shirt should cost no more than $10. If you add a picture of an adorable Japanese Chin, like Olivia. That is different.

Just remember dear reader. To love yourself. You are like a fabulous snowflake and one of a kind!
